Every year we add more couples to our extended family – there have been over 500 so far. And one of the best parts of being a wedding photographer is that our relationship rarely stops there. In fact, weddings are often the first step in our ongoing relationship with our clients.

We have the incredible privilege of photographing our couples as their families expand and they have babies! And we love babies! It’s not just our wedding clients whose babies we are photographing – we are finding that baby photography is becoming a regular part of what we now do.

Here are just a few of our clients’ new additions, and some of our favorite images!

There is nothing sweeter than baby toes and baby mouths.

I love the magic between a new mother and her baby, the softness of her expression and the love in her eyes. One of my favorite sayings is, and I paraphrase,  ”On the day a child is born, so is a mother, for one cannot exist without the other.” Never is that more evident than in the way a new mother looks at her child.

If you are staring at your screen right now, a confused look on your face, that’s ok.  Things look a little different than they did, just a few days ago. We’ve had a facelift  and the blog is the first part of the more comprehensive change we’re making.

It’s still a blog, a place where we will share all the things we are up to, all the weddings we photograph, and more. You can follow us on twitter and join our facebook page by clicking on the tabs to the left of the screen. Feel free to check all the links out – we’ll be adding more as time goes on.

Our contact page is now fully integrated with our studio management software, which we are really excited about. We’re still building a few things, and finalizing our overall look.  And the old blog, which we loved, is not gone, simply relocated. You can find it here: www.bebbblog.com/blog We moved over a lot of information and posts, but we weren’t able to move them all, or all of your wonderful comments. So we decided to ensure the old blog is still accessible, at least for the next while. Of course, you can always leave new comments on this blog – we do love getting comments!

Now that the blog is almost done, we’re setting our sites on a brand new website. We’ve been working on a new site for a while, and we’re finally getting closer to what we want. As soon as it is live, you’ll be the first to know!

Most importantly, we want you to sit back, relax and enjoy yourself while you’re here! And come back often too!

Over the past year or so, Steve and I have been moving further towards the portrait market. It has been a gradual transition, one that we have pursued in a way that won’t detract from our wedding commissions. The fact is that we love our weddings, absolutely and without question – we will always do them. And we want to pursue portraits with the same level of passion. So our challenge has been to find what inspires us about the documentation of a family’s life.

And through our journey we have discovered that it is the life of a family, each and every family, that provides us with the inspiration for each session. Some families are photographed in a quiet, contemplative manner, others in a louder more robust way. But each family, no matter its personality, is photographed with the same respect and commitment that we bring to our weddings.

Yet, what is it that inspires us in our own family? One of the ironies of being a professional photographer is that we don’t have very many photos of our family. Sure, we do the big events like visits to Santa or Kindergarten graduation. But what about the daily life of a family? What about the changes year to year?

Through our work with other families, the desire to capture our own has been lit. But, we don’t see our family like any other family, so we don’t want to be photographed like any other family.

For a few years now, Steve has had a vision of a certain kind of family session; one that hearkens back to a time when families made an annual visit to the local photographer and images were made in studio. That studio (which may well have been my grandfather’s in Kenora, Ontario, or my great-grandfather’s in England) doucmented the changes that each year brought, in a way that may now be viewed as boring. But there is an elegance and timelessness in that studio photographer’s method – one that we wanted to bring into the climate of our own family. After all, who doesn’t look at images made 40, 50, or 100 years ago and not marvel at the simplicity of their composition and the subsequent raw truth revealed by that simplicity?

And so it was that we brought the boys to the studio yesterday and engaged in an experiment in simplicity. With a simple backdrop and light set up, the personality of our family was revealed in a stark glory. It is very rare that we share anything about our children, but these images are such a gift, that we hope you enjoy them and see the spirit of our children shine through.
